While many states were replacing their aging coal plants, Arkansas was switching on new ones. The state has seen carbon emissions rise 35 percent between 2005 and 2012, National Geographic’s Christina Nunez explains. That means Arkansas faces an uphill battle in meeting requirements set by the EPA.
