Rep. Frank Guinta (R-N.H.) introduced a bill Tuesday that aims to make it easier for veterans to seek healthcare. The measure would lift the time and distance restrictions under the Veterans Choice program that says veterans living more than 40 miles from a VA facility or waiting more than 30 days for an appointment can seek private care.
Congress created the Veterans Choice Program in 2014 to expand veterans’ options for healthcare after allegations that hundreds of thousands of veterans had died while waiting for health care through the VA. The program provides veterans with more alternatives to a single-payer system.
