The Senate voted 55-43 to proceed to consideration of S.J. Res. 22, a joint resolution that would nullify the final rule submitted by the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency relating to the jurisdiction of the Clean Water Act.

The White House issued a statement of administration today saying it “strongly opposes” the resolution, adding that the final rule is grounded in science and was the product of extensive public engagement.

Correction: The headline and story have been updated to reflect that the Senate voted on the motion to proceed to consideration of S.J. Res. 22.
