The White House issued a statement of administration regarding S. 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act, saying it “strongly opposes” the measure sponsored by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.). The Obama administration said the legislation would increase costs for permit seekers, threaten water quality and increase flood risk.
The Senate is debating the measure today, with a cloture vote scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The bill has 46 cosponsors.
