President Obama will not revoke his nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court if a Democrat wins the presidency in November, he said in his first interview with Fox News as president.
Asked by Fox News’ Chris Wallace, Obama replied “yes.”
Obama also said Senate Republicans are setting up a dangerous precedent if they do not consider Garland.
“What I think we can’t have is a situation in which the Republican Senate simply says, ‘Because it’s a Democratic president we are not going to do our job, have hearings and a vote,’” Obama said. “Let’s say a Republican president won … [Democrats will] say, ‘Let’s wait for four years and we’ll take our chances on the next president.”’
The full interview is slated to air this weekend on Fox News Sunday.
