The House Rules Committee will meet Wednesday to consider the amendment process for legislation that would give Puerto Rico the tools to restructure about $70 billion in debt.
The June 8 meeting raises the likelihood that the House will take up H.R. 5278 later this week. The amendment filing period for the Puerto Rico bill expires at 10 a.m. on June 7.
The Rules Committee also released the House Natural Resources Committee’s report on the measure, which contains separate views from Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Arizona, the committee’s ranking Democrat, and Pedro Pierluisi, Puerto Rico’s resident commissioner.
Both officials, in keeping with previous statements about the measure, said they support passage of the bill but believe it has several flaws.
