  • Alphabet Inc.’s Google said it will sharply restrict audience targeting for verified political advertisers, a decision that could transform how campaigns advertise online around the world. In addition to limiting audience targeting to a few categories such as age, gender and location, Google is clarifying its existing rules on misleading content in political ads and expanding its political ads library to include U.S. state-level elections.   • Integral Ad Science Inc. purchased European ad tech firm ADmantX SpA, which provides more information on where ads are physically placed online — an acquisition that could appeal to brands that are concerned their spots could inadvertently turn up alongside offensive or violent content. (The Wall Street Journal)
  • In a similar vein, Facebook Inc. is rolling new brand safety tools to give marketers more control over where their ads show up on the social media site. The features include whitelists, or pages that advertisers have already approved, and a new way of reporting ad runs after campaigns end so that companies can see where their ads appeared. (Ad Age)
