The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, who are slated to feature in five primetime broadcasts in 2019, begin play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8, a departure from the league’s tradition that the previous season’s champion take part in the first game of the season.   • NBCUniversal and LA 2028, the organizing group for the Olympic Games led by chairman and senior sports agency executive Casey Wasserman, have launched a joint sales effort tied to four Olympic and Paralympic events that’ll see the media conglomerate try to raise $2.5 billion in sponsorships to fund the games. The partnership with the U.S. Olympic Committee, which is hosting the first Summer Olympics in the U.S. since Atlanta in 1996, allows for NBCUniversal to sell long-term cross-platform deals to advertising partners, which could include associations with Team USA. US sports industry OTT spending to hit US$6.8bn by 2021

Spending on over-the-top (OTT) technology in the North American sports industry will hit US$6.8 billion by 2021, according to a new report by sector specialists Deltatre. The Where the Money is Going: The Future of Sports Entertainment analysis of the OTT economics reveals that sports operators worldwide are now spending 15 per cent of their total budgets on related technology, meaning that by 2021 more than US$6.8 billion will be invested in the sector.

Judge temporarily blocks release of Robert Kraft video in prostitution case

A judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked the release of video that allegedly shows New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft receiving sexual services at a Florida day spa, Palm Beach State Attorney’s Office spokesman Mike Edmondson told CNN. An April 29 hearing is scheduled before Circuit Judge Joseph Marx, who issued the temporary protective order, according to Edmondson.
