  • Florida State fired head football coach Willie Taggart 21 games into his tenure after a 27-10 loss to the Miami Hurricanes dropped the Seminoles to 9-12 during his tenure. Under the terms of his contract, Florida State owes Taggart between $17 million and $18 million and sources said the school raised $20 million in private donations to buy him out, though a university official denied that money was raised.   • The NFL Players Association issued a statement calling an NFL Network report “misinformation” after former Washington Redskins general manager Charley Casserly said in a segment that tackle Trent Williams had not been entirely truthful last week when he told reporters that the team misdiagnosed a cancerous growth on his scalp for more than five years. The NFL and NFLPA are conducting a joint investigation to examine the treatment that Williams received. (The Washington Post)
