Yes. The ChatGPT Connector is built on the Model Context Protocol, the open standard for connecting AI assistants to external data sources — the same standard behind our Claude connector. If your team already manages MCP servers, the Morning Consult connector works the way you’d expect.

The data comes from Morning Consult. ChatGPT uses that data to generate answers, visualizations and narrative, guided by Morning Consult’s methodology and expertise built into the connector. You can ask ChatGPT to show its work at any time to see exactly what data was pulled and how it was used.

Look for the Morning Consult tool call in the response. ChatGPT shows when it queries the connector. You can also ask "tell me what data you used," and it will report the exact dataset, sample size and query parameters behind the answer.

We have high confidence in the connector’s ability to retrieve data. Hallucinations are not possible during data retrieval because the connector is built on a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architecture. Instead of asking the AI model to generate data from its own knowledge, the connector translates the user’s request into specific data targets and retrieves matching values directly from Morning Consult. The connector either returns Morning Consult data or produces an error when it cannot find a valid match. While it may occasionally retrieve data that does not fully align with the user’s intent, the values themselves will always come from Morning Consult. It cannot invent data points.

Our AI Connector is built to pass enterprise review. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0 with PKCE, which means your users sign in with their Morning Consult credentials, and no credentials are shared with the AI tool. Access follows your existing Morning Consult permissions: users only reach the data sources, countries and brands their team is entitled to. Queries run on Morning Consult’s servers and return only the aggregated results requested — the connector never exposes respondent-level personal data, and Morning Consult receives only the data requests the connector sends, not your broader conversation. How your prompts and outputs are handled inside ChatGPT is governed by your organization’s own agreement with OpenAI.
