How the Morning Consult AI Connector (MCP) Works

Overview

The Morning Consult AI Connector gives you access to Morning Consult data within the AI tools your team already uses. Ask a question in natural language, retrieve relevant survey results, and use your AI tool to analyze the findings, create visualizations, and prepare deliverables to share.

The connector is powered by Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets AI tools connect to external data sources. Morning Consult supplies the data, metadata, and research context. Your AI tool, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity, generates the response and determines how the findings are analyzed and presented.

Each user connects with their own Morning Consult login. Your organization's data access and your account permissions determine what you can retrieve, including syndicated data sets and custom research specific to your team.

AI Connector Setup

What You Need

1. An active Morning Consult Intelligence account. Your account permissions determine which syndicated datasets and custom research the connector can access.
2. Access to a supported AI tool: Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity
3. For an enterprise workspace, an Owner or Admin who can approve or add the connector before individual users connect.

Before you begin: Make sure you can sign in to Morning Consult Intelligence. If you do not have access to Morning Consult Intelligence, please contact your account representative for support.

Claude Enterprise Setup

Enterprise setup has two parts: an administrator makes the connector available to the organization, then each user connects with their own MCI credentials.

Admin Setup

Before individual users can connect, your Claude Workspace Owner or Admin will need

to add the Morning Consult AI Connector to the organization. These steps make the connector discoverable by individual users, but only those with Morning Consult credentials will be able to access it.

Option 1: Install from the Connector Directory

1. Open Organization settings > Connectors
2. Select Add > All Available
3. Search for Morning Consult
4. Select Connect for your team

You can also find the verified listing in the Anthropic Directory. Users can request access from the listing if their administrator has not yet enabled the connector.

Option 2: Add the Connector Manually

1. Open Organization settings and select Connectors
2. Select Add > Custom > Web
3. Enter the following details:
1. Name: Morning Consult
2. MCP server URL: https://api.morningconsult.com/mcp
4. Skip advanced settings as the Morning Consult connector supports dynamic client registration
5. Select Add to complete setup

User Setup

Each user must connect to the Morning Consult Connector and authenticate

with their own Morning Consult credentials.

1. Open Claude.ai, Claude Code, or Claude Desktop
2. Go to Customize > Connectors and find Morning Consult
3. Select Connect and sign in with your MCI credentials to authorize access
4. Start a new chat and test the connection with the prompt below
   
   

ChatGPT Enterprise Setup

Enterprise setup has two parts: an administrator makes the connector available to the organization, then each user connects with their own MCI credentials.

Admin Setup

Before individual users can connect, your ChatGPT Workspace Owner or Admin will need to add the Morning Consult AI Connector as a plugin. These steps make the connector plugin discoverable by individual users, but only those with Morning Consult credentials will be able to access it.

1. Open Settings > Security and login and enable Developer mode
2. Go to Plugins and select the plus button
3. Enter the following details:
1. Name: Morning Consult
2. Connection: Server URL
3. Server URL: https://api.morningconsult.com/mcp
4. Authentication: OAuth
4. Select Create to complete setup

User Setup

Each user must enable the Morning Consult Connector plugin and authenticate with their own Morning Consult credentials.

1. Open ChatGPT
2. Go to Plugins and find Morning Consult
3. Select Connect when prompted, and sign in with your Morning Consult Intelligence credentials to authorize the connection
4. Start a new chat and test the connection with the prompt below
   
   

Perplexity Enterprise Setup

Enterprise setup has two parts: an administrator makes the connector available to the organization, then each user connects with their own MCI credentials.

to add the Morning Consult AI Connector to the organization. These steps make the connector discoverable by individual users, but only those with Morning Consult credentials will be able to access it.

1. Open Organization settings and select Connectors
2. Select + Custom Connector
3. Enter the following details:
1. Name: Morning Consult
2. Description: Global market intelligence: brands, economy, & politics
3. MCP server URL: https://api.morningconsult.com/mcp
4. Select that you “understand custom connectors can introduce risks.” and click Add
5. Open the new Morning Consult connector listing to ensure that:
1. The connector listing is set to active
2. All read and write tools are set to Allow

User Setup

Each user must connect to the Morning Consult Connector and authenticate with their own Morning Consult credentials.

1. Open Perplexity.ai
2. Go to Settings > Connectors and find Morning Consult
3. Open the listing and select Add Connector
4. When prompted, sign in with your Morning Consult Intelligence credentials to authorize the connection
5. Open a new chat to test the connection

Getting Data

Discovering what data exists

Tenant Management

A tenant is a Morning Consult account or client workspace. It determines which subscriptions, datasets, custom research, and permissions are active for your connector session. Most users belong to one tenant and never need to change it.

Note: Switching the active tenant is the connector's only write action. It changes your active account context, but it does not create, edit, or delete survey data, research, reports, or other content in Morning Consult.
